Pack Leashes – Lead and Collar Review

Look how pretty she looks!

I absolutely love the opportunity to talk about and post photos of my dog, so much so that when I stop for a chat with someone I know or haven’t seen in a while and go through the usual exchange of  pleasantries the first question they usually ask me is in relation to her. “Where’s Bonnie?” (Lying on my freshly made double bed at home I suspect…), “How’s Bonnie?” (Wrecked, her contracted dog walker slave had her out for a two hour run this morning while I was at work trying to earn enough money to pay for it), “Where did Bonnie go while you were on holidays this year?” (I didn’t go away myself this year, Bonnie and her friends rented a camper down in Wexford for 2 weeks so we couldn’t both afford to have a holiday), and so on and so forth.

So, needless to say when Pack Leashes contacted me last month through Instagram and asked if we would like to try out and model their super durable dog leads and collars with the view to us becoming a “brand ambassador” for them I nearly fell off my seat with excitement. This is it! She’s finally going to make me rich! The last four years of following her around apologising for whatever destruction she’d left in her wake was all going to be worth it! At last, someone has seen the untapped potential I knew she had and will make her a Broadway star; Move over Lassie, there’s a new bitch in town!

This is essentially how it works. They give you a discount code to place an order on their site, you pay for the goods and the shipping, they send you the goods, you take a picture of your dog wearing their goods, they feature that picture on their Instagram feed, they give you a discount code to share with your friends and family (it’s VANITYFUR before you ask – 20% off, but read this to the end first) and you get a kick back on any purchases made using your code. Simple. The best part about it however and what really attracted me to the scheme, is that for every purchase made they would donate 2 pounds of dog food to no-kill shelters and humane societies across the United States. This sounded worth a try – the quality of the products looked good, (though the price was a little steep, even with the 30% “brand ambassador” discount) and I needed a new durable collar and lead anyway as Bonnie’s old ones were so worn out from washing fox poo off after every walk, as she insists on rolling around marinating in it at every opportunity.

I also managed to avoid the $20 international shipping fee by having it delivered to a friend who was in the US on business that week so figured a total of $54.63 or €47.45 was a small price to pay for international stardom for my beloved pet and a future Instagram following that was going to make me enough endorsement money to buy a big house surrounded by acres of land covered in the finest array of fox poo she could ever wish for.

So, the merch arrived, I kept it all clean and wrapped up on the top shelf where she wouldn’t see it while we waited for a sunny day to go on our photo shoot (this was one of the stipulations from Pack Leashes, the pictures had to be taken outside) and then I went through the painstaking process of trying to get her to pose in the right light at the right angle all the while shooing off the other dogs who kept running up to her to play “Go away, go AWAY she’s busy! That’s it Bonnie, hold that long distance gaze, that’s it that’s the money shot right there!”

Never mind the gear for a minute, look at how her ears go all crimpy when they’re wet

Anyway, I sent in our pics, I was duly told she was a beautiful pup and my pictures were perfect and would appear on their 300k follower Instagram feed and all I had to do was be patient and enjoy my new collar and lead while I waited for my, I mean Bonnie’s,  15 minutes of fame.

Patience, however, is not a virtue I was blessed with an abundance of when it comes to such matters, and I decided to do a bit of investigative journalism of my own online. Lo and behold, according to numerous online reviews and posts from disgruntled would-be models (or their owners as it were) it would appear Pack Leashes have been using this tactic the length and breadth of the globe, as a way to coerce us into buying their goods! Apparently Bonnie is not in fact the most beautiful pup in the world, and there are thousands of others out there who were drawn in to the murky world of doggy modelling, unwittingly handing over their hard earned money for a collar and leash that promised to deliver in return a successful online career – fame, fortune and more Bonios than you could shake a stick at! Well, at the risk of exile, never to work again as an unemployable trouble maker, I am speaking out against this degrading treatment. Do not be fooled by the sweet nothings they whisper into your inbox, preying on your vulnerabilities and telling you that you and your pet are special, destined for the dizzy heights of fame and beyond. They are all lies!

As it happens however, and in Pack Leashes defence, I AM enjoying my collar and lead. And so is Bonnie I hazard to guess. The rainbow collar is extremely pretty and makes her look like something out of the Pride festival, while the leash is long (I opted for this, there is a choice of length when ordering) and very durable, as it’s made from climbing rope with a proper industrial strength caribiner that clips onto the sturdy buckle of the collar. It’s got a lifetime guarantee (good, considering I would be really stupid to do business a second time with the people who quite frankly shattered our dreams) and I’m told will withstand even the best chew attempts.

If by some small miracle I am proven wrong by Pack Leashes and we do make it in Hollywood, I’ll buy one for everyone in the audience who reads this blog post. In the meantime, you can get 20% off using discount code VANITYFUR at the checkout. The stuff is good. The story isn’t.
